Designer's Note — This is a speculative portfolio piece by Hannah Shambley, Instructional Designer & LxD.

The fictional Foothills Cannabis Co. brand is used to demonstrate instructional design applied to the cannabis retail context — product knowledge, compliance-adjacent consultation skills, and first-time customer scenarios that front-line dispensary associates navigate daily.

Cognitive design rationale

Section 01 uses click-to-reveal to activate retrieval practice rather than passive reading. Section 03 uses branching scenario to require application of Section 01 & 02 knowledge in a realistic consultation context.

Assessment design rationale

Knowledge check questions are scenario-based, not definitional — testing whether the learner can apply knowledge to a customer situation, not just recall terminology. Pass threshold (3/4) is tied to demonstrated application, not effort.
